Tread-Wear Indicators

Tire Tread Depth Gauge

Using a tread depth gauge, you can measure the tread depth by sticking the probe into the shallowest groove of the tire and pressing the shoulder flat against the tread to understand its tread depth. Tread depth gauges can be purchased online or at your local auto parts store.

Penny/Coin Test

A penny test is the easiest way to check the tread depth of your tires. For this test, place a penny upside down with Lincoln’s head facing you, and if the tread depth is less than 2/32-inches, then you will be able to see the President’s head. This indicates that you should replace your tires immediately.
