Proudly embracing the principles established by Bruce McLaren's original open top racing cars of the 1960s, the McLaren Elva was launched as the company's lightest ever road-car, joining the likes of the F1, P1, Senna, and the Speedtail as the fifth Ultimate Series car to emerge from Woking. With a name derived from the French “elle va,” or “she goes”, the car takes further inspiration from their original open-top Group 7 sports prototypes such as the M1A, M1B, and M1C. Taking enthusiasts to what McLaren would describe as “the razor-edge of driver engagement”, the open-air Elva with over 800 horsepower delivers a thrilling experience that is also described as the most agile McLaren ever created.
Crucial to the unique experience provided by the Elva, an industry-first Active Air Management System (AAMS) was developed using sculpted elements to guide high speed air over to the cabin and afford passengers a turbulence-free zone for the driver and passenger. Allowing for maximum comfort, the AAMS system channels air through the car's nose from an inlet in the splitter and re-directs it at a radius of 130 degrees in front of the occupants for what McLaren would label an "oasis of calm" for the passengers. Activating at speeds over 25 miles per hour, this system can also be disabled for track-use, for which the system will instead redirect air to the engine. In addition to the proprietary AAMS system, the Elva also employs an active rear spoiler which can function as an air brake or also in Formula One-style Drag Reduction System (DRS) mode to cut drag and boost acceleration.
Powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft, low-mass reciprocating components and a dry-sump lubrication system to deliver 804 horsepower. Equipped with a titanium exhaust system, the Elva produces an intoxicating engine note through its bespoke quad exit exhaust while full-time active suspension and an electro-hydraulic steering work in concert to provide the finest driving dynamics. With all systems working in perfect harmony thanks to Proactive Chassis Control II, the pilot is able to select from multiple different driving modes, from sporty street driving to a full-blown track oriented configuration.
Composed of just three panels made completely from carbon fiber, the lightweight bodywork provides a clean, sculpted profile that is heavily inspired by Formula One and represents the next chapter in the McLaren design story. Embodying bold forms, clean lines, and fluid movement, the Elva features a seamless transition between the interior and exterior allowing for stunning proportions from every angle highlighted by machined solid metal and carbon fiber details.
One of only 149 examples, this 2021 McLaren Elva was delivered new to McLaren Houston with an optional 2x2 Twill Gloss Visual Carbon Fiber exterior body and contrasting Satin Visual Carbon Fiber details at a cost of over $250,000. These finishes are complemented by front and rear brightwork finished in brushed Galvanic Grey and Dark Stealth five-spoke super-lightweight forged wheels with black brake calipers. On the inside, advanced Ultrafabric Caviar Black upholstery protect's the cabin while specially-designed carbon fiber seats deliver comfort and support even at extreme cornering speeds. Complete with air conditioning, a McLaren Audio system, and vehicle lift, the Elva still offers occupants a number of unexpected creature comforts not typically seen in a lightweight open-air supercar.
